This is my second Mackie powered mixer. My older one (1999) was ok but bulky, heavy. The compactness/lightness of this new PPM608 was appealing, but, after 2 months of use on gigs in a variety of sonic settings, I have concluded that the sound is unacceptable and am getting rid of the unit. In Particular, the reverb is horrible. Even the ‘spacious’ settings sound unbelievably cheap. For a unit of this price point, ridiculous. And, there is compression that alters the sound quality too much and there’s no way around it that I can find. I have 2 other very cheap Powered Mixers that — with all their inexpensive circuitry flaws — sound way better than this Mackie. Too bad. It’s the 3rd new Powered Mixer I’ve tried this year, and it seems that as they continue to get lighter in weight, they sacrifice sound quality. Buy the simplest machine that you can find, and one without compression. And not this Mackie PPM608.
